India Is Producing a Generation of AI Illiterates — And Schools Are Doing Nothing About It

 There is a war happening quietly inside every Indian classroom, and almost nobody is talking about it. It isn't fought with weapons. By April 2026, this moved from policy to action. The Ministry of Education and CBSE rolled out age-appropriate AI learning modules for Classes 3 to 8, marking a genuine shift from optional exposure to foundational, curriculum-wide learning. These modules are built around computational thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving — not just coding.



That sounds promising — until you look at the timeline. Before this rollout, most Indian schools offered nothing more than a 15-hour optional CBSE module starting in Class 6, or an elective subject for Classes 9 to 12. That means for over a decade of the smartphone-and-AI era, most Indian schoolchildren received close to zero structured AI education. The new framework is a step in the right direction. But a national rollout takes years to actually reach every classroom, every teacher, and every district — especially outside metro cities.
